EXCERPTS

This is a letter to Premier Dennis Fentie and Peter Jenkins, the Minister of Health and Social Services.

On behalf of the Yukon child care community, the Watson Lake board of directors, staff and families, the Yukon Child Care Association, the Dawson Child Care Association and the Society of Yukon Family Day Homes, we would like to thank you for providing the child care field with emergency funding

This funding will not solve all the problems but it is a good start.

The funding was necessary to stabilize a field in crisis. The emergency funding will begin to provide trained child care providers with increased wages, an important factor for keeping them in the child care field.

Child care programs also have additional funding to enhance programming, provide some stability and to assist caregiver training, all critical components for providing quality child care.

The child care field will use the funding wisely so the children of the Yukon and their families will benefit. We would also like to thank the committee members who are working on the four-year child care plan, the Child Care Services Unit and the government for their commitment to the field.

Executives and Board Members,
