About this study:

The study consists of four sections, each of which is composed of data extracted from responses to the survey and data tables that compare regulatory requirements across the states. The four sections include:

  • General Licensing Procedures - This section addresses how licensing operations are conducted in each state.
  • Family Child Day Care Homes - This section addresses licensing practices, regulatory requirements, and operations in Family Child Day Care Homes.
  • Group Day Care Homes - This section addresses licensing practices, regulatory requirements, and operations in Group Day Care Homes.
  • Child Day Care Centers - This section addresses licensing practices, regulatory requirements, and operations in Child Care Centers.

Each of the survey questions is repeated verbatim and includes a simple analysis of the responses to each question. Most of the survey questions and information about regulatory requirements are presented on a shaded map and also in a data table. The tables are designed to easily identify a particular state and to see responses in aggregate. Regulatory requirements have been generalized to permit state-by-state comparisons, and are presented in a similar format.
