This debate was sponsored by NAC (National Action Committee on the Status of Women) and moderated by Judy Rebick. In a prior televised leaders' debate on women's issues in the 1984 federal election, child care had also been one of the topics debated.
Participating in the 1997 debate on women's issues were NDP Leader Alexa McDonough; Maria Minna for the Liberals; Francine Lalonde for the Bloc Québécois and Nancy Branscombe for Reform.
