EXCERPTS

Human Resources Minister Diane Finley claims the Caledon Institute's numbers on the child-care allowance are inaccurate (Minister Rejects Idea Rich To Benefit More From Child-Care Plan -- April 27). Yet no one from her department -- or from the government, for that matter -- called to obtain a copy of our report or to ask about the calculations.

We would be pleased to sit down with the minister at any time to explain our figures and assumptions. We can also discuss the fact that the inequities resulting from the child-care allowance as proposed have nothing to do with clawbacks on welfare, as the minister implied in her response to the study.
