Most would agree that educating young children requires some specialized knowledge. Today we ask, is a child development credential enough or should a bachelors degree be required for all those who work with educating young children?

Dr. Valora Washington is President of the CAYL Institute, directs the Schott Fellowship in Early Care and Education. Marcy Whitebook, Ph.D. Director/Senior Researcher Center for the Study of Child Care Employment (CSCCE, University of California at Berkeley. Sarah Garland is a staff writer at the Hechinger Report, a nonprofit news organization that focuses on education journalism.
