A Brampton child-care centre that specializes in programs for children aged four months old to five years is battling a COVID-19 outbreak.

On Feb. 11, Peel Public Health declared an outbreak at Willowbrae Childcare Academy on Chinguacousy Road.

As of Feb. 22, the Ministry of Education indicated that two more children and three staff have tested positive for COVID-19 at the site.

Peel health officials have also declared an outbreak at Fernforest Public School in Brampton on Feb. 10.

According to the school’s website, there are three active cases of COVID-19 at the school, which remains open.

All of the schools in the Peel District School Board are currently open.

Springbrook Public School, Dorset Drive Public School and Hewson Public School have four active cases each, and Oakridge Public School has five.

As of 2 p.m. on Feb. 22, Ontario’s Ministry of Education reports that 48 new cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed at schools and child-care settings in Brampton and Mississauga.

Of that number, two students and one staff member from St. Andre Bessette Catholic Elementary School in Brampton tested positive, as did three students at Brian W. Fleming Public School in Mississauga.

Cases were confirmed at 16 schools and 19 child-care facilities in the area.
