EXCERPTS

The Department of Community Services has followed through with part of its promise to Nova Scotia's child-care community, a spokeswoman for the Non-Profit Directors Association said Monday.

But the group wants some assurance that everything that was promised will be delivered - and soon - the spokeswoman added.

Members of the association were concerned because until Friday they had yet to see anything following up on an earlier commitment to increase operational funding to non-profit child-care centres.

The minister also committed another $1.3 million from the federal government's acceleration of child-care funding in the March 23 budget.

The department is planning to do a complete review of the province's subsidy program before it hands over $900,000 of the $1.3 million allotted for child care. But Ms. Vigneault said this could take months.

Non-profit child-care centres haven't seen an increase in operational funding since 1998, despite the escalating cost to run a day care.
