Abstract:

This is the first of two briefs about the workforce in centre-based early childhood services and the education of its members. This brief is concerned with the structure of the workforce and how this relates to initial education for the work. The next will deal with different forms of continuous education and professional development. The examples given are drawn from affluent countries, with per capita GDPs of at least $21,000.
