On April 11,2008 The Institute for Research on Public Policy (IRPP) held a symposium in Toronto on child vulnerability in the Canadian context.

Over the past several years, the well-being of children has become a key focus of public policy and an important research topic in several disciplines. The IRPP symposium examined the findings of recent research and discussed to what extent recent initiatives to support vulnerable children meet objectives.

The symposium consisted of:

SESSION 1
Fraser Mustard - Keynote speaker
Jessica Ball and Andrea Johnston - Aboriginal children
Christa Japel and Magdalena Janus - Risk factors and children in Quebec

SESSION 2
Gillian Doherty and Brenda Patterson &em; Canadian initiatives to assist vulnerable children
