Experts warn parents are being held hostage to a dysfunctional childcare system that subjects them to ever-increasing fees despite government subsidies designed to reduce their out-of-pocket costs.

New analysis shows that childcare fees increased by 10.6 per cent in the past 12 months, eroding the benefits that were supposed to be baked into the Albanese government’s $5 billion childcare reforms introduced in July 2023.
