Dozens of Alberta parents wrote to Premier Danielle Smith expressing concern over the cost increases they are bracing to face when the province moves to a flat-rate child-care fee on Tuesday — though the government insists the change will save money for the majority of parents.
The 94 emails were received by the premier’s office between Jan. 31, the day after the change was announced, and Feb. 2. Copies of them were acquired via a freedom of information request.
Almost all the messages outline anxiety about dealing with potentially steep increases to child-care costs when the province moves to a $362.25 monthly flat fee, or about $15 per day, on April 1.
