Re: Ontario, Mulcair spar over daycare

Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne and Education Minister Liz Sandals should curb the partisan rhetoric on child care and harken back to November 2014 when both Ontario Liberal and NDP MPPs came together to pass a motion that supported partnering with a willing federal government to develop a quality, affordable child care system for all families.

While the Ontario government might like a pat on the back for their work on full-day kindergarten and other investments, they surely must recognize that Ontario is still a very long way from a real child care system — spaces are too few and fees are too high. Leaving child care to the market isn't working.

We will need considerable co-operation provincially, federally and locally to build an early childhood education and care system in Ontario. Child care is everybody's issue — we need to set aside partisanship to work together for Ontario's families.
