Parents and activists took turns giving a cardboard cut-out of Premier Dalton McGuinty a piece of their minds yesterday as they pushed the government to make good on a 2003 promise to spend $300 million on child care.

About two dozen parents and child care advocates were on hand at a Toronto day care to stage a re-enactment -- complete with a paper premier -- of a 2003 news conference in which McGuinty promised to spend millions on child care if elected.

The original promise, made during the 2003 election campaign, was designed to dovetail with what were the former federal Liberal government's plan for a national child care program.
