The province will provide senior child-care staff with a total of $500,000 in bursaries in each of the next three years, to improve their leadership skills.
"It doesn't seem much to a lot of people but $500,000 a year in our field is substantial," said Sherrill Brown, chairwoman of the Alberta Child Care Network Association.
"It's another way to attract and retain people in the field."
She said the association, which is the umbrella group for Alberta child-care organizations and will administer the bursaries, expects to set a limit of $10,000 on individual two-year bursaries. The money, to cover tuition and textbooks, will be available to child-care directors, assistant directors, program directors and owners or operators, probably starting this fall.
