October 27th will mark the 10th annual Day of Appreciation for Child Care Workers and Early Childhood Educators in Ontario.

Ottawa (27 Oct. 2010) - The National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) is joining with communities across Ontario in recognizing the valuable contributions made by child care workers and early childhood educators to the development of children, families and communities.

The Ontario Coalition for Better Child Care (OCBCC) has developed a package of materials for use in marking October 27th as the 2010 Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day.

"At the same time as we acknowledge the valuable contributions of these dedicated workers, I also encourage all Canadians to join with the National Union in continuing to lobby both provincially and federally for a national, universal early learning and child care program," says James Clancy, NUPGE national president.

"A national early learning and child care program is the best way to ensure our children have every opportunity to develop physically, emotionally and linguistically. It also would ensure that the dedicated workers in this field have decent working conditions and proper wages and benefits."
