Conservatives promise extended child-care benefit

The provincial Conservatives said today that if elected Oct. 4 they will extend a federal universal child care benefit to kids age six to 12.

The federal program pays families $100 per child per month from birth to age six.Leader Hugh McFadyen said provincial Conservatives would extend that program to age 12. The PCs estimate that 90,000 children would qualify for the benefit.
