EXCERPTS:
Parents in London have a new tool to help find licensed childcare.
A new website developed by the city and Middlesex county, www.familyinfo.ca/waitlist, features a centralized waitlist for licensed childcare, school-aged care and nursery school spaces in the area.
According to the city's manager of child services, this new wait-list offers the benefit of one-time application, and eliminates the need for parents to contact multiple child care providers.
"The centralized waitlist puts an end to parents having to run from place to place to find suitable care for their child," Michele Reid said. "No more calling multiple child care providers. No more filling out multiple forms. Now, there's only one wait-list and one application form!"
Registration is easy. Parents simply go online and create an account, then complete and submit an application - selecting as many licensed childcare, school age and nursery school programs in their area that fit their family's needs. When spaces become available, the chosen child-care provider will contact them directly to discuss options.
