The Family Minister is promising to maintain the freeze on the price of 7$ daycare, but only until the next election is called, and then there would be a little soul-searching.
Nicole Leger was responding to a working group she created which tabled its final report yesterday.
It calls for parents to pick-up a greater share of the real cost of the subsidized system.
The working group is recommending minimal but gradual increases to ease the burden on lower-income families, culminating with eventual indexation.
The group found that the share of daycare costs borne by parents has fallen to just 13% of the real value from 20% in 1997.
Their recommendations also come one day after an HEC report concluded that Quebec was living beyond it's means.
