HURON COUNTY – Parents struggling to make ends meet during the pandemic will get a break in licensed childcare fees for Oct., the county announced in a press release.
The support is thanks to funding the Ministry of Education received from both levels of government.
“Supporting childcare providers and the families who access these services is particularly important now as many families are continuing to face increased pressures and financial burdens as a result of the pandemic,” Huron County Warden Glen McNeil said. “Funding programs, like this one, will help off-set expenses for families and aid in our community’s recovery.”
The County of Huron recognizes that early childhood education, including childcare, is an essential service. Therefore, the Children’s Services department continues to support families and licensed childcare service providers by:
Providing a childcare subsidy program; increased health and safety measures at licensed facilities in response to COVID- 19 through improved cleaning and sanitization; education, and use of proper PPE; Emergency childcare was provided, at no cost, to frontline workers during peak province-wide shutdowns; funding accessibility, expansion, and capital projects.
Ongoing recruitment and education for new home-based licensed childcare providers to handle the increasing childcare needs in the community.
This new one-time limited funding program provides additional support directly to families accessing licensed childcare at a time when families may be experiencing increased financial burdens due to the impact of COVID-19, the release said.
Licensed childcare providers will directly bill Huron County Children’s Services, so no action is required by parents or guardians.
