The provincial government is on track with plans to implement a wage grid for Early Childhood Educators by January 2023.

Education Minister Tom Osborne says they hope to have more details about that plan at some point over the summer.

Currently, ECEs receive an income supplement from the government once every three months—which Osborne says means an additional $16,000 per year for some ECEs.

Osborne states when the grid is introduced, the supplement will become part of those wages.

He explains that the current average income of a daycare worker is about $15 per hour. When the supplement is combined with the wage grid that will bring salaries for ECEs to around $25 or $26 per hour.
