Earlier this year, council asked staff to prepare a document that would support the creation of childcare spaces, where feasible, within county-owned property and incentivize affordable housing projects.
This policy – approved during Oxford’s Sept. 22 council meeting – aims to address the rising demand for affordable and accessible childcare by establishing a framework to ensure the efficient use of property. The policy also includes consideration for licensed childcare space within incentivized affordable housing projects through the competitive bidding process.
The policy encourages engagement between internal and external county partners to leverage resources, expertise, funding and strategic partnerships, county officials said.
