Excerpts
Quebec is offering daycare operators in Aylmer a rare opportunity: convert to a subsidized model and help close one of the province's most persistent childcare gaps. The window to apply opens May 7 and closes May 29.
The provincial government's new call for projects targets the conversion of 5,000 unsubsidized spaces into subsidized ones across 19 specially chosen territories. Aylmer, designated TBC 7-09, made the list because the gap between what families there pay and what subsidized spaces cost is among the widest in the province. The Quebec Government Budget 2026-2027 directed the government to prioritize exactly these kinds of communities, with additional weight given to economically disadvantaged areas.

For operators, the incentive is a stable, government-backed funding model. Daycares that qualify can apply to convert under one of two streams: becoming a subsidized daycare center, or, through a new pilot project, converting into a full early childhood center (CPE). To be eligible, operators must have held an unsubsidized permit for at least five years as of June 30 and must be licensed to accept children under 18 months.
