Innovative Policies in Parental Leave and Child Care
by Deborah Brennan

A new lecture series by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences titled So What? is designed to showcase the work of researchers in the Faculty and to demonstrate its relevance to contemporary public policy. I was honoured to be invited to give the first lecture in this series, and Maxine McKew, the newly appointed Parliamentary Secretary for Early Childhood, agreed to chair the event. The lecture, summarized in this article, focused on the need for innovative policy making with respect to parental leave and early childhood services.
