Description: "Governments are going to tell you that early learning is something they simply cannot afford at this time. When they do, I might suggest you'd like to reply as follows: First, early childhood development should be an essential part of any economic stimulus package. More than anything else, it's the gift that keeps giving.”-- Right Hon. Paul Martin The Council for Early Child Development brought together on May 13-25, 2009 in New Brunswick an international, multi-disciplinary brain trust to not only answer the whys but to provide the how to's of connecting the science of early child development to coherent policy and doable actions. The Putting Science into Action conference attracted early childhood development experts, researchers, child care workers and supporters from around the world, all in a bid to get the Canadian governments to take the next step in developing accessible and affordable child care programs for all. The conference featured speakers from Sweden, Australia, the United States and Latin America, as well as renowned Canadian authorities from coast to coast. With years of compelling science to back them up, the goal was to bring the experts together with the policymakers to connect the well-established research with what governments can and should be doing. The keynote speakers for the conference were the Right Hon. Paul Martin and Dr. Clyde Hertzman. A list of presenters and selected presentations can be found through the link above.
