A current US magazine story describing American child care as "day care hell" provides a useful comparison that reflects Canada's dismal child care situation with regard to options for parents, costs, quality and leadership-even health and safety. Martha Friendly points out that without political action, "our child care choices will remain limited to cross-border examination of our own unsatisfactory reflection in American mirrors".
