The Department of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) released its Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) What We Heard and Funding Programs Review reports today.

What We Heard Report
The ELCC What We Heard Report summarizes the findings from engagement sessions held in May and June 2021 with partners and key stakeholders, including Indigenous Governments; licensed ELCC program operators; and early childhood educators. Discussions centred around cultural programming; attendance-based funding; licensed ELCC staff wages and benefits; early childhood educator qualifications and professional learning; and child care fees.

ELCC Funding Programs Review

ECE conducted a review of five of ELCC’s funding programs. The recommendations identified from the review will be used to improve programming.

ECE will use the information gathered during the engagement sessions as well as the outcomes from the ELCC Funding Programs Review, to inform the development of the 2030 Early Learning and Child Care Strategy. The strategy is anticipated to be completed before the end of the 2021-2022 fiscal year.
