It's up to citizens to press politicians to make quality, government-funded child care available, says the co-ordinator of a national campaign to do just that.

Morna Ballantyne, national co-ordinator of CODE BLUE for Child Care, told an audience of more than 50 people in Fredericton on Wednesday that they need to urge local MPs to support an NDP bill on the issue. It comes up for reading next week.

Bill C-303 comes up for second-reading and a vote in the House of Commons at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 22, she said.

...

The NDP, Bloc Quebecois and Liberals are all behind the plan, she said.

...

Reached Wednesday night, Fredericton MP Andy Scott said he backed a similar Liberal motion earlier this year and will do so again at the vote next week.

"I will be there and I will be supporting it," he said.
