The throne speech is over but advocates vowed to step up their fight yesterday against the Conservatives' controversial child care plan.

"We weren't surprised," said a disappointed Kira Heineck, executive director of the Ontario Coalition for Better Child Care. "There's a lot that can still happen."
The coalition is part of a nationwide Code Blue campaign, which has collected nearly 28,000 signatures on an open letter to the prime minister.

The Child Care Advocacy Association of Canada said it will press the federal government for $1.2 billion a year to create licensed day care.
Meanwhile, the Institute for Canadian Values praised the plan to give money to parents instead of "bureaucracies."
