The Yukon government is adding more money to its funding for child care in the territory.
The pot for direct grants to child care operators is going up by $675,000. Half is targeted for operating costs, while the other half is for salaries. The government has promised more increases over the next couple of years.
The co-chair of the Yukon Childcare Association, Jasbir Randhawa, says it's a start.
"We are still underpaid and overworked people, we have a long ways to go," she says. "Still, if government is showing their commitment it makes our life a little bit easier to work with kids so we don't have to fight another fight.
"So we are happy with them, they are making the commitment."
