The independent inquiry into the inequalities in health (England)

The inquiry was set up to contribute to the development of the Government of England's strategy for health and action on inequalities in the longer term.

The report emphasises the importance of the social environment and good social networks. Policies in these areas will give individuals a sense of belonging to society, and will help to reduce manifestation of exclusion, such as crime, violence, self harm and isolation.

The inquiry gives priority to parents, particularly present and future mothers, and children. It concludes that the best chance of reducing future inequalities is to focus on families with children.
