The NDP and Tories made two very different campaign announcements Thursday. Greg Selinger's government promised $24-million for health care over four years. While the Tories promised to give more money to families totally $9-million a month.
Right now families with children under 6 qualify for $100 month as part of the federal universal childcare benefit.
The provincial conservatives want to extend the program for kids between 6 and 12 years.
"Families with kids between 6 and 12 still have a lot of ongoing expenses related to child care in particularly especially before and after school," said PC leader Hugh McFadyen.
About 90,000 children in Manitoba will be eligible for the credit, costing tax payers $9-million per month. The NDP says the money would better spent on day care spots.
