The promise is still in play, and an advocacy group gathered Thursday to kickstart the commitment to $10-a-day childcare in B.C.

The Ministry of Education and Childcare tells CHEK News along with the 16,000 $10-a-day spaces in the province, the government is helping families of almost 145,000 kids with savings of up to $900 per month, including some families who have childcare fees completely covered under the Affordable Childcare Benefit.

In a statement, Minister Lisa Beare says, “These affordability programs have reduced average child care fees for tens of thousands of families with children 12 years and under from $47 per day to approximately $19 per day throughout the province. This has put more than $2.6 billion back into pockets of families since the launch of ChildCareBC in 2018.”
