Overview

The Ontario Ministry of Education has recently released developed a discussion paper, Building a Better Future: A Discussion Paper for Transforming Early Years and Child Care in Ontario that serves as the basis for new community consultation on child care in Ontario. The paper outlines the current early years and child care system and provides an overview on the proposed approach.

The paper highlights the four key pillars guiding our approach to early years and child care across the province:

  • Access to licensed child care and early years programs
  • Responsiveness to the needs of families and children through early years programs and child care in schools, communities, workplaces and homes.
  • Affordability for families that need support
  • Quality programs that contribute to healthy child development, measured through established province-wide outcomes

Share your feedback with the Ministry of Education online by January 31, 2017 through completing an online survey or attending an in-person consultation session. Consulatation times and dates can be found here.

The Ontario Coaltion for Better Child Care has developed a helpful tip sheet for participation in this consulation.

The Ministry will report back on the results of this consultation as part of the Renewed Early Years and Child Care Policy Framework and Expansion Strategy in winter 2017.
