Description

The OECD Starting Strong publication series provides comparable international information on early childhood education and care (ECEC) to support countries in their review and redesign of policies to strengthen their delivery of quality services.

The sixth volume of the series, Starting Strong: Mapping quality in Early Childhood Education and Care, seeks to foster an understanding of how policies can support the quality of interactions in ECEC and thereby child learning, development and well-being.

The Starting Strong: Mapping Quality in Early Childhood Education and Care platform complements this publication and provides a visualisation of the policy levers, or drivers, that countries can draw on to promote quality in ECEC. The platform’s policy tree allows users to explore the interrelation between different dimensions of quality and policy levers, and to access related indicators and visuals.

The data visualised on this platform draw on a rich database of information on ECEC systems around the world collected through a dedicated policy questionnaire. This policy questionnaire gathered data from 26 countries for the year 2019. Given the complex architecture of ECEC systems, the questionnaire yielded information on different curriculum frameworks (56 in total) and ECEC settings (121 in total) within participating countries and jurisdictions.
