École élémentaire catholique Jacques-Cartier has been approved for three new childcare rooms to create 41 new childcare spaces, and renewal work at the Maple Street North school. The province is giving $9.75 million to the project.

"This project is very close to my heart, as childcare centers are always a valuable support for our parents. In fact, a nearby daycare centre will undoubtedly be very practical for parents of children who are in our Timmins schools, but who also have other children - toddlers who are not yet school age," said Jérémie Lepage, Conseil scolaire catholique de district des Grandes Rivières (CSCDGR) director of education and secretary-treasurer, in a news release.

The province has given the school board the go-ahead to accept bids for the work.
